Last Minute Getaway! (Part 2)

We had originally decided not to do any parks with the kids while we were there, but advertisements are all over the place, and Pierce and Dayton really wanted to go. Frank and I are also suckers for Disney. We LOVE Disneyland, and decided since we just went there 18 months ago, we'd try a new park we hadn't been to, Animal Kingdom. We woke up early Wednesday and went to the park. I was quite frustrated with the smoking and open alcoholic beverages around the park, and the fact that many women felt they could get away with wearing as little clothing as possible! We were only able to go on the safari tour and jungle walk, we took the train to the conservation station (not worth it), saw the Lion King Jamboree (our favorite part of the day), ate lunch, had our stroller taken while eating lunch (it was a rented park stroller, but still!), waited in line to see the Disney characters in their little character camp bungalows, got in line to go on the dino flyers (similar to the Dumbo ride) and then the storms rolled in. The kids were devastated the couldn't go on the ride, but we made it to the Nemo Musical (we're glad Nemo WASN'T a musical!) It was quite the day! The bad thing is that the Animal Kingdom park closes at 5:00 p.m., and still costs as much as the other parks! But, the kids had had enough (Frank and I had too), and we went back to the hotel and relaxed!

On Friday, we felt bad the previous day hadn't been all we had liked, and I wanted to go to the Downtown Disney area. They have a big indoor arcade/ virtual ride park there called Disney Quest. It's 5 stories tall and is all free play arcades! They had an entire floor specifically for kids ages 2-7. The kids a had a fantastic time once we got in! We had gone earlier in the day before it opened. We bought our tickets about 10:45 and nobody was in line, but the park didn't open until 11:30, so we strolled through a few stores with the kids. Well, we went back at 11:25, and there was a line of people about a 1/4 mile long!!! Dayton said, "Not anther line!" We didn't' want to wait in the heat of the sun, and so sat across the walkway under an umbrella table. But, being the last part of the school year, the line kept getting longer as more and more school buses showed up dropping off kids for field trips. So, we decided to go back to the resort (about 7 minutes away), have lunch, take naps and then go back as the schools left (around 3:30 p.m.) Of course trying to have Pierce and Dayton understand that we WERE coming back was a little hard, and Frank ended up walking the sidewalk three times carrying our kids back to the car since they didn't like out idea.

After lunch and naps though, we all went back to Disney Quest and walked right in without a line! Then we played for about 3 hours. There was a restaurant we wanted to eat an called "T'Rex Cafe". You eat with a whole bunch of dinosaurs and a volcano that erupts. Well, we put our names on the list at 6:45, and were told it was only going to be a 20 minute wait. Well, we still had not been called by 8:15. Frank went and asked how much longer, and they said another 20 minutes! So, we decided to take our name off the list. Surprisingly the kids didn't put up too much of a fuss, I think they were pretty hungry like Frank and I! So we got Wendy's on the way back to the resort--to which I found out that that particular Wendy's does not put frosties in the kids' meals.

We go the kids in bed and packed u the suitcases and got in bed at about midnight. We had to be out the door by 6 am to get the rental car turned back in and make our flight. The flight from Houston to Utah was the worst of any flight we'd had. The bumped us onto a little express jet commuter plane (one seat on one side, two on the other). Non of the kids wanted to sit by themselves on the opposite side of the plane. And we were delayed an hour before we could board, and then waited another hour and fifteen minutes on the tarmac before taking off! But, we finally made it back to Utah and home to Logan in time to grocery shop and get Dayton a few birthday presents for him to open the next day (May 17th) for his birthday. What a trip!

On the tram to get the tickets for Animal Kingdom!

Sounds like some trip! Glad you guys had fun. Maleah is such a good baby, how sweet of her to make it easy for you and not cry the whole trip!
